Kick-off symposium of “Asia Applied Artificial Intelligence (A3I): Real Problem Solving Driven Artificial Intelligence Education Program” adopted by the CAMPUS Asia Plus from MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology – Japan) was held virtually via Zoom on 17 March 2022. Approximately 150 people such as students, professors, and staff joined this event from a consortium of four universities; University of Yamanashi (Japan), Hangzhou Dianzi University (China), Pukyong National University (Korea), and University Malaysia Perlis (Malaysia).
Symposium started with the Opening Address by President Shinji Shimada, University of Yamanashi, and was followed by the presidents of each university. They reported on the Signing of the LOI to promise more cooperation between the four universities. After that, Xiaoyang Mao (Vice president, University of Yamanashi) introduced this program.

Keynote speeches from Dr. Hajime Hotta (Cinnamon AI Co-Founder, Futurist), Dr. Hongxia Yang (Director of AI, Alibaba), Dr. Junku Yuh (President of Korea Institute of Robotics and Technology Convergence (KIRO)), and Dr. Hai Liang (Duncan) Lee (Principal Engineer, IT at Intel Corporation) were informative including their own experiences, therefore, students could get knowledge about the current situation of AI industry and the possibility of AI for the future.
Then, students who participated in a morning workshop made a presentation. In a workshop, students from four universities were divided into mixed groups and discussed the prospect of AI and the challenges of AI usage. We expect students will contribute to solving social issues in near future.
Lastly, a panel discussion took place on the theme of “Accelerating Asian Students Mobility for the AI Era” with the participation of a keynote speaker. It was a great opportunity for all participants to learn and discuss the AI era.
We shall bring this program to success, develop AI human resources who can solve the problem which each country is facing now, and promote the internationalization of each university from now on.
